Colibri Commons – Community in the Jade District Portland

This is a family driven small community in the Jade District in South East Portland, Oregon.

This is a four small units complex looking to thrive and build community and a common space that includes gardens, gathering spaces, and experiments for urban homesteading and sustainable life.

Our small community is growing from our old dream to something more feasible with two new ADUs (rental units of 800 sqft each) in early 2025.

Who is currently living here?

There are three small families living in this property. All are multicultural, diverse, and with young kids. The property has spaces for gardening, gathering, a chicken coop, and a greenhouse that is intended to host an aquaculture system.

There are share spaces for tools, storage for outdoor items, and parking for compact vehicles. Although, these spaces are a bit on pause due to the ongoing construction, we expect to do some landscaping and work in Spring 2025.

Who are we looking for?

We look for people interested in joining our community and open to explore ways on how urban homestead can be built in the Jade District in SE Portland.

Mission and Vision

Vision:

We envision a small community of 4 households where households share meals, tools, and responsibilities, in order to be able to be better parents, neighbors, and community organizers.  As we enter a period of increasing instability, we believe that building community is one of the best strategies for building physical, social, and emotional resilience to the coming shocks.

Mission:

Through the sharing of meals, tools, and responsibilities, Colibri Commons will be a place where people can contribute their unique talents and support each other and the broader community through the individual and collective challenges to come. By making decisions together in a way that is transparent and accountable, we hope to build our collective muscles in practicing self-governance and building the kind of practices we want to see in the world.
